“Just over thirty minutes of merciless D-beats and slaying blastbeats, noodling basslines, classic riffstorms and putrid war-howls that sound like Karl Willets and Barney Greenway are having a dispute under the mushroom cloud on the last of days”.

“Storming with menace, lurking the shadows”. Thusly goes a line from the second track “Deathstrike Of The Scythe”. That first bit with menace and storming is spot on and the other part is 100% false, as anyone will testify to after hearing the latest album of Durham´s crust death punk freight-train Winds Of Genocide.

Just over thirty minutes of merciless D-beats and slaying blastbeats, noodling basslines, classic riffstorms and putrid war-howls that sound like Karl Willets and Barney Greenway are having a dispute under the mushroom cloud on the last of days. That´s pretty much the scenario, it´s death and armageddon through and through. Starting out with “The Howling Wolves Of Armageddon”, the tone is set immediately with straightforward catchy punk riffs, vile, fantastic vocal deliveries and drum infernos with cymbals that sound like shattering glass of several skyscrapers falling down, loud, panzerfaust infested and unapologetic.

This apocalyptic horde summon up plenty of strong, classic dark tremolo picked melodies with that nineties flavor to them, occasionally shifting from the punk induced mayhem to more doomy passages, as heard on the title track, and exercising more death metal brutality on closer “Swathed By The Black Wings Of Death” (what a fierce exit btw). “Venomous Warfare” is another great example of these fast picked melodies mixed with abrasive crust´n´punk intensity.

Mixed by none other than Sweden´s premier wall of filth sound craftsman Fred Estby (Dismember), these roaring tunes earn their rightful, warlike sound collage. Clearly the album I´ve listened to them most lately, highly recommended if you´re into this kind of vicious blend of crust, punk and death metal! Where there´s no peace, there´ll be Winds Of Genocide! 8,5/10
