For those who still haven’t registered, I’m going to be covering the fourth edition of the Faroese Wacken Metal Battle during the next week. The event is taking place on 18.March at the venue Perlan and is being organized by the metal community group Upp við Hornunum. So far two short articles (containing my infinite creative and laid back musings on the bands announced) have been published. Yesterday the last three bands where unveiled, so let’s take a closer look.
A young and energetic band from Suðuroy. The villages of Suðuroy have always been associated with old school metal and Asyllex further this notion by embracing primal metal influences at their most untamed form. Their gigs are a joy to behold, as the guys take you back to glorious heydays of thrash metal in the eighties. A productive band as well, an album is in the works and hopefully it’ll see the light of day soon.
This band has existed for a few years now, playing contemporary mix of death and thrash metal. The debut album “Embrace The Abyss” was released in 2014 after several delays, followed by several concerts around the islands. I’m curious to see if they’ve got some new material for their performance and if there’s a progression to their style.
The final band entrance is also the most enigmatic one. Dangerous murmurs have circled the air to the far corners of the islands of a brand new formation summoning blackened doom metal. That would be a first. This definitely ranks as my most anticipated performance at the metal battle. No music has been released, no social media profile can be traced, all we’ve got is the video teaser below.
With the line-up now completed, the fourth edition of the Faroese Wacken Metal Battle is ready for take off. Stand by for more coverage in the coming days. See full poster for the event below.
